We believe in a traditional curriculum including Basics, Kata and Kumite. Rank is earned at this dojo and there are no guarantees of gaining a certain rank / belt. It's all up to you! Aside from Traditional Isshinryu Karate we do incorporate some aspects of Judo and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu to round out the training.
Our lineage is traced back directly to one of the greatest American Martial Artists of all time, Master Don Nagle. We strive to preserve the spirit of Master Nagle by training hard and constantly learning from each other. All students must be aware that the study of Karate is a journey and not a destination.
Current instructors:
Sensei Mike Scott (Go-Dan) 5th degree Black Belt is the Kancho,head instructor, and owner of the dojo. Sensei purchased the dojo from his instructor in 2003 and renamed to Isshinryu Karate Academy. Sensei Mike started training in 1995 and received his Sho Dan (1st degree Black Belt) in 1998. In his spare time Sensei practices Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Tai Chi.
Sensei Joe Barbalinardo (San-Dan) 3rd degree Black Belt. Sensei Joe statred his training in 1999 and received his Sho-Dan(1st degree black belt) in 2003. He has studied Judo and Tai Chi.
Sensei Larry Powell (San-Dan) 3rd degree Black Belt. Sensei Larry received his Sho-Dan in 2003 with Sensei Joe. Sensei Larry was an amateur Boxer for many years before beginning his study of Isshinryu Karate. Sensei Larry's father is a Black belt under Master Don Nagle.
Sensei Anthony Italiano (Ni-Dan) 2nd degree Black Belt. Sensei Anthony started training in 2004. He received his Sho-Dan in 2009. Sensei Anthony is currently learning weapons katas and running the Little Dragons program with Sensei Mike Scott.
